A Great Big Art Show

Yesterday I took a bus to the outskirts of Edinburgh to see the work on display at Edinburgh College's 'The Great Big Art Show 2013'. I spotted some extremely impressive output from all departments and courses; lots of innovative and interactive works with real thought and process behind them.

It was a bit of a whirlwind tour as it was so busy, so I didn't get a chance to note the names of all the artists, however here's some shots of my favourite works of this year, including some works by friends of mine from home, and from art courses at the ECA.

A vast collection of collage works by Cameron Wallace.

Striking ink work by Sally Mairs

A dark room full of beautiful flickering strings of light.

My friend Michael listening to a piece.

Ethereal yet urban work by Madison Simpson.

Bottle clouds by Jessica Thomasson.

A stunning illustration created for an animal conservation campaign.

Finally, my friend Zoe Fulton had built a 'planetarium' which could be entered like another world by a little door in its side. She had created stars with tiny little mirrors which reflected light inside, which were arranged into constellations. While gazing at these you could listen to a recording of Zoe gathering the public's thoughts and stories about stars and constellations, and it was wonderful to listen to how many people experienced a deep connection with the night sky.

Visit Zoe's blog here.

The Great Big Art Show is open until the 13th June at Edinburgh College Granton Campus, I'd definitely recommend a visit!
